Apimondia, also known as the International Federation of Beekeepers’ Associations, is responsible for facilitating the exchange of information amongst beekeeper organizations worldwide. It provides a forum where beekeepers, scientists, honey-traders, agents for development, technicians and legislators meet to listen, discuss and learn from one another. Apimondia meetings offer great opportunities to learn about all the aspects of beekeeping, as participants explore various exhibits and learn about cutting edge research from all parts of the world.
Apimondia 2015 was held in Daejeon, South Korea, and the strong Canadian representation helped secure the 2019 bid for Montreal, with 67% of the votes. HoneyWater® was one of the proud Canadian sponsors at this years delegation, alongside other big organizations such as The Canadian Honey Council, The City of Montreal, Desjardins Bank, University of Laval, and the Government of Canada Department for Agriculture. More information on the bid can be found here.
The last Canadian Apimondia was the 36th Congress, “Apimondia 1999”, held in Vancouver. It was a spectacular success and many beekeepers considered it as one of the best Apimondia in recent years. The Canadian Honey Council (CHC) also hosted an Apimondia Symposium in Québec on honeybee pathology and queen breeding in 2012. It was very well attended and a great experience for the local organizing committee and the CHC, leading up to the 2019 event.
