With the 2017 edition of the Superbowl fresh in everyones mind, there is a local Football story that is shining light on one of the less glamorous positions in the game – the Linemen. This off season, Jacob Ruby, a CFL star on the Offensive line for the Montreal Alouettes, started the Jacob Ruby Football Camp in his hometown of London, Ontario, as a way to give back, educate, and train young athletes that are interested in football.
Although many of the positions in football are quite ‘natural’, involving running, throwing, catching, or kicking; playing the offensive or defensive line is a little different. The camp aims to teach teens proper technique, body control, as well as the skills required to learn and play the position, and includes beginners starting at ground zero, all the way to high-school athletes with dreams of going professional.
To help these young linemen achieve their dreams, there is no one better than Jacob Ruby. Jacob spent 4 years as a starter for the University of Richmond in the NCAA, before being drafted in the first round (8th overall) by the Alouettes. On top of sharing his own story and experience, Jacob Ruby invites current and former NCAA, CIS, NFL and CFL players to educate young players and promote the game of football.
As one of Jacob Ruby’s favourite drinks, HoneyWater was recently a proud sponsor of the Jacob Ruby Football Camp performer of the week, helping keep all the athletes fresh, hydrated, and full of energy. Check out some pictures from last weeks camp below!
